Those damn hobgoblin bottles.

I have aquired over the past year about 30 hobgoblin bottles but reading the forums I know a standard capping device wont work because of the shape of the neck but will a bench capper do the job. I dont have many bottles but I want to start and store the larger/cider for quite a while to really let it mature and it would be a damn shame to have to dump these loverly looking bottles.

I've got about fifty to be given away I'm sure someone will relieve you of them. I get most of my bottles from a local theatre group I have got them to enjoy Black sheep and Wadworth and not hobgoblin and clear bottled thirsty ferret :lol: :lol:

I still get the odd clear and hobgoblin. I keep the clear for emergencies and have kept the hobgoblin just in case someone wants them.

A Bench Capper will cap Hobgoblin bottles fine.

Which one did you go for? I've heard of people having problems and buying the bench ones, but all the ones I've seen only do up to 26mm, bench type and hand type. I'm looking at getting one this week as I've got a load of St Peters bottles and what's looking like a nice Imperial stout. Im tempted to shell out £30 on the bench type, but if it only does 26mm, I may as well save £20 and get a hand one from wilko's for less than a tenner.

Some have a reversible bell that does 26 and 29mm . . . and some like the H&G one have an additional Bell to do the 29mm bottles . . .but the convenience of a bench capper even if it only does 26mm is easily worth the extra over a lever capper

It's the same with the Bacchus Kriek bottles. The tops are far too big for normal caps. So I've decided to save them & use corks, to give a vintage style look for some of my special brews :
