Hi
Just a simple question regarding kits, How many people actually use the yeast that comes in that small silver packet, would you rather use a branded yeast?

I think the main problem with kit yeasts is that you don't get enough of something which is nothing special in the first place.

You might get away with it with a budget priced ‘kit & kilo’ because sugar is easier for the yeasties to get stuck into than malt extract, but I think we're all starting to get a bit sick of the stories about premium two-can kits sticking and Munton's sending out better yeast sachets or ‘dry beer enzyme’ when anyone complains, it really does seem like time they got their act together.

Hi Darren, I use the yeast that comes with the kit but I also have started to add yeast nutrient to give it a better start, last time I tried to use a 'lager yeast' instead of the kit yeast it didn't start, so added kit yeast and that started to ferment.

Just my humble opinion

Colin.
