I understood what you said, i.e. that hamburgers were NOT made from ham but originated from Hamburg, but I couldn’t quote that from your post because you didn’t use those words. I can honestly say i have never heard of any fast food outlet putting beetroot in a burger in the U.K.

Interestingly, I cooked the veggie child a 'plant based' burger from the Co-Op last weekend and that oozed 'blood' that was obviously beetroot.

I remember in the “old days” we used to have hamburgers and beef burgers so veggie burgers would seem to fit. There was pork sausages as well as beef sausages and we now have turkey sausages as well, so veggie sausages seems to be appropriate as well.

Beef burgers were invented because people thought Hamburgers were made from ham rather than originating in Hamburg and made from beef. Just like people thought Brains ******* were made from brains. They were renamed to Mr Brains *******. So a veggie burger would be OK as would a fish burger.
