Three Tories have now joined the group saying it represents "the centre ground of British politics"

I imagine most of us at some time in the past have wished the big two parties would get their heads together over many things (knowing it was never going to happen) do you think this new party made up of both sides may be what we wished for and could it make a difference?

I am sure more will join as the days pass.

Three Tory MPs have resigned from the party to join an independent group, set up by former Labour MPs.

Anna Soubry, Sarah Wollaston and Heidi Allen wrote a joint letter to Theresa May to confirm their departure.

The PM said she was "saddened", but her party would "always offer... decent, moderate and patriotic politics".

The three criticised the government's "disastrous handling" of Brexit and said it had undone "all the efforts to modernise" the Conservatives.

The pro-Remain trio will join the new Independent Group - made up of eight Labour MPs who resigned from their party over its handling of Brexit and anti-Semitism - saying it represented "the centre ground of British politics".

Its just a anti Brexit Party I will stand correction but I think they are all remainers so only technically represent at the most 48% of the electorate. We will see?

Whilst they are remainers, I understand why they have done what they have done and I don't think it's just about Brexit.
Both parties have been hijacked by tin pot Marxists or hard right nationalists and there is nothing in the middle ground anymore. The UK has always been based on centerist politics and now we have nothing of the sort.
Props to em I say. I hope more join them and really put the whole system to shame. Without any majority in either party and a complete inability to force policy through, parliament would have to be much more collaborative - which is what they should have done years ago - never mind just for Brexit.

You may be right but Dr Sarah wollaston said -

"This is about more than Brexit, i joined the party after spending 24 years as a front line doctor in the NHS wanting to make a difference joining a tolerant, moderate, open-hearted Conservative party which i think has now disappeared i am afraid the prim-minister simply has not delivered on the pledge she made on the steps of Downing Street to tackle the burning injustices in our society and i think we now see what once was the party that was most trusted on the economy and business is now marching us towards the cliff edge of a no deal Brexit.

Jezzer and his court have abandoned the white working class in favour of which ever strident minority bellows and screams loudest. It's clear that he is open only to his ideas and is more than willing to tread on anybody who disagrees with them.

The right wing Thatcher Spaun are destroying any chance of a reasoned departure from the EU they will plunge our nation into chaos and cause dreadfull suffering to tens of thousands of ordinary people whilst moving their wealth of shore.

While some of these MP's may have done this for good reasons there is one person amongst them who was elected by her constituents and they voted to leave in the brexit vote and she has gone against her constituents wishes and fought tooth and nail against leaving the EU. How can this MP be trusted when she has gone against a democratic vote by the same people that put her in the post and decided she knows best for them. I can understand the others fighting not to leave the EU if that is the wishes of their constituents. That MP being Anna Soubry

Ps Chippy I think this thread will open old wounds on the Brexit thread from a few months ago Lol

There are several reasons why they have formed the independent group only one of which is their views on how the Tories are handling Brexit there is no need for members to discuss Brexit further as it will add nothing to the thread and as you say it will open old wounds, the message in the Brexit sticky thread still stands - https://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/threads/brexit.78638/

I think they should all resign and call a by-election, like Carswell and Reckless did when they switched party. After all, they stood for a party and manifesto which they no longer support so their constituents should have a choice as to if they should continue to represent them. That would seem the most honourable thing to do.

They won't, though.

They should but as you say they won't.

Since when have the Labour Party been "tin pot Marxists"?

It may come as a surprise, but the Labour Party is a Socialist party that is moving back to the policies that make it the largest democratic political party in the UK. The campaign slogan "For the many and not the few." says it all.

For those of you who read the Daily Mail please be informed that:

"Consensus has determined that the Daily Mail (including its online version, dailymail.co.uk) is generally unreliable, and its use as a reference is to be generally prohibited, especially when other more reliable sources exist. As a result, the Daily Mail should not be used for determining notability, nor should it be used as a source in articles. An edit filter should be put in place going forward to warn editors attempting to use the Daily Mail as a reference."

I am only surprised that it took them so long to see through them. Here's the reference if anyone cares to read it:

Dutto please remove your rose tinted spectacles, i have voted Labour all my life but this shower are toothless and I can no longer vote for them especially as JC wants to stop Trident which would devestate the shipyard in Barrow in Furness (for the second time in my lifetime), I used to like JC but he is not a strong leader I wish Andy Burnham (sp) had got the job he would have torn May a, second a**e hole in PMQ's over Brexit but he has been useless he is unpopular with many in his party and if they had voted for a leader tomorrow I think he would lose.

As for the daily mail I wouldnt wipe my arse on it.

What chippy says
He's a vile self serving power hungry lunatic, hell bent on his own brand of politics and will destroy anyone in his party that gets in his way

Your right. He's become an independant rather than joining the independant group

I wonder if he will join later rather than be seen to be jumping on the independent group band wagon.

Ian Austin has become the ninth MP to quit Labour this week, blaming leader Jeremy Corbyn for "creating a culture of extremism and intolerance".

He told the BBC the leadership had failed to tackle anti-Semitism and had turned the party into a "narrow sect".

But the MP for Dudley North said he had no plans to join the new Independent Group of former Labour and Tory MPs.

Jeremy Corbyn said he "regretted" the MP's decision while his deputy Tom Watson said it was a "serious blow".

A Labour spokesman suggested Mr Austin should stand down and call a by-election in his West Midlands seat, which we won by only 22 votes in 2017.

Mr Austin told the Express & Star newspaper, which first broke news of his resignation, that it was the "most difficult decision" he had ever had to take.
