Nearly finished the new 80ltr HLT build so thought I would post a couple of shiny pictures, just needs wiring, stickers for the sight tube and some stainless cover discs for the flush bottom.

They are a standard "style" burco element, one advantage of using them in a HLT it keeps the outside wall looking plain & simple.

How did you fix the bolt that holds the top of the sight glass - does it go through both walls?

So as to avoid the need to go through both skins a managed to cut a thread in the "very thin" wall outer skin and just threaded the bolt eye in. The second idea was to do exactly the same but to squirt some epoxy resin into the hole for extra security. The eyebolt itself is just there for a steady really.

Cheers mate,

How do you connect the elements to the electrical supply?

Also are these the same elements:

Are you going to fit a stainless collar around the bottom to allow side entry for the cables or are you going straight in the bottom?

Thanks for your advice,

 Buy chance you will now have two different views of the best way of doing things, Chastuck constructs his builds with the aid of a collar, which also gives you a better range of fittings that can be used, whereas I use the bottom foam layer, the electrical wiring goes straight through this with a cable gland on the outside, I normally go a little OTT with the wire and use 4mm cable for the job, spade connectors are then used to wire it to the element.

BTW myself and Chas have agreed to disagree about the best way to make these pots :thumb: ;)

Thanks. A beautiful pot - well done. I have been experimenting with the various issues with different ways of fitting a sight glass - all methods seem to have their pros and cons with no one best way of doing it. I will be posting my ideas soon.

Yep.theres more than one way to de-fuzz a chicken....

Oooh shiney.

I think I have a mash tun that you had a hand barneey (via awolphotography/mastersouffle). I haven't actually managed to use it yet but it certainly looks very nice :)

4mm? also where did you buy your pots? Thanks for the reply :thumb:

Looking at buying 3. 1 for HLT, 1 for boiler and 1 for mash tun.

The pots are the normal French ebay ones, search for marmite thermos on the .fr site and email them OR contact the maltmiller for a price.

as for 4mm its very OTT normal kettle flex would be fine.
