One thing the rich should learn from this is, that protection bubble money affords them no longer exists a virus doesn't care who it gets, Richard Branson last year sued the nhs now he's asking for a 7.5 billion bailout, its a feckin virus Dicky people matter more than money

I always worry when any Government decides to change the way they measure something!

In all my born days I have never seen any Government make changes that has shown them in a worse light than before. As an example when the UK Government decided to change how they measured the number of "unemployed" people the numbers dropped massively.

I fear that they have made the current changes to the "Death Rate" from Covid-19 to be a similar exercise; and one that should be deplored!

Glad you're not in government.

In fairness with that attitude you could send your CV to Boris
The only sure thing in life is death, can't dodge it. This virus, as I have said previously, and it may sound brutal, is shortening peoples lives, on the whole old and the sick. Any others is collateral damage and it is unavoidable, nothing anyone can do about it. Blaming a political party for deaths doesn't help anything, Spain has a socialist governments but they aren't faring to well.

The UK population can thank their lucky stars that they are living in an affluent country.

Even though the distribution of wealth is currently skewed, there is enough spare capacity within society to allow a more equal distribution of wealth and resources, so that no-one in this country needs to starve or go without treatment.

It may be that the current pandemic will see a re-evaluation of social values in the UK, so that more resources are made available to the disadvantaged, disabled, unemployed, homeless and poor.

The current mantra is "We are all in this together!" and for that to become a reality then there has to be much more equality of opportunity and the wealth has to be made available to everyone.

I think any re-evaluation will be we don't have any money for anything, we have printed to much money and can't do it any more without hyper inflation. Not disagreeing with you its just a sad fact, we have borrowed (as a government) in the bad times to cover spending and borrowed in the good times to increase it.

I see no mention anywhere about stress levels even though we know stress will cause far greater symptoms of any illness and I know from experience flu is one of the illnesses where stress creates exaggerated symptoms. The nurse who's phone video was used on the BBC crying in her car because she couldn't buy essentials has now proven positive and I'm not surprised, I've been there! ( I don`t mean with this flu but under trauma and a different flu 20+ years ago).

Be strong. Do not get stressed!!! Brew or find another hobby to do as well as brewing, keep yourself occupied somehow and don't worry. Keep safe!
Not easy when everyone is worried about jobs and bills. This is the most shittiest position most people have ever been in or are going to be in. But we are all in this together and we will stand up for each other when we come through it. We have to!

I fully get this virus is lethal and seriously bad for the world, I am not concnerned for myself but I worry about being a proxy for other people..

However I don't get why the fear that thousands if not millions that could suffer and die from global economical death as a result of the virus is a controversal topic?

The virus and the fear it generates may not be political but how Government’s responds to it is unfortunately always going to be a political matter.

I know it will be and you can see it already, I am not a person who has been raised to only stauunclty follow a party with blinkers on and critique anything oppositions do I have no affiliation whatsoever I just view things at the moment which closely match my values.

However I can understand the fear of aftermath of the virus which will also inturn ruin and cost many lives as well as the present situation regardless of how goverment does this and that ect.. I am not critiquing anything just understaning the empathy of the entire picture that is all.

One of the symptoms of the virus seems to be an explosion in the number of people whom ive had to add to my ignore list in order to stay positive and calm. :laugh8:

These are from a local paper 1918 (during the Spainish Flu outbreak).

Put things in perspective

How does everyone else find being stuck at home? I have been working from home now for nearly 2 weeks. Apart from getting some fresh air or going for a run and the solitary shop I did.. It is hard not to get cabin fever..

Next week I have been asked to take some days off , the hum drum of work at least keeps me occupied

I am into my fitness so I set my pull up bar into my kitchen every time I walk into my kithen I do a pull up..

going to paint my hallway / stairs get the kids to help me.. we have been doing the PE with Joe Wicks aswell.

I really miss my Girlfreind too

In view off what i wrote last night i apologise, i am leaving the forum, i may return at some point when i learn to curb my emotional out bursts, once again apologies to all i upset
You don;t need to be so extreme, its a difficult time for everyone.. since my dad dropped dead the other year I have the occasional bout of anxiety its a tough time and people are stuk in house and stressed its understandable.. we just all from time to time just need to step back

How does everyone else find being stuck at home?
I'm spoilt as we live in the countryside, and our house, like most round here, has a sizable front and back garden so during 'PE' the little one and I can go outside and pay tig or sticky tennis, or I can put her in the wheelbarrow and run around the garden. The daily exercise has been a walk with her and the good lady round the lanes in the evening, and I've been out once to Maybo for our food shop. Today's exercise will be a bike ride on my own. It's not too bad; the good lady and I had some booze last night and the teenager joined us (not on the booze!) to do a virtual streamed pub quiz on Facebook run by a bar in Louth, which was a good laugh.

Project work has dried up so work have me on support calls, so I still feel useful. All in all, so far so good.

Don't do that, Rod. We all say things we regret. Didn't see the post you're referring to unless it's the Richard Branson one, but even so.
When I embarrass myself, I just log out for a while until I've got things in perspective.
