There's something pretty chilling about hearing a British Prime Minister saying "I must level with you, the British public, more families will lose their loved ones before their time."

At least we know where we stand and hopefully it will encourage everyone to self-isolate if they show symptoms and to continue hand washing, keeping a distance from people and looking out for others.

They are now saying if you get a persistent cough, high temperature or both stay at home for 7 days i guess this is to rule out it being a common cold or seasonal flu but to stop you infecting others if it isn't, i assume if it persists you then get tested (i missed that bit)

I still wouldn't rule out them extending the Easter break by a week either way.

Looks like the government won in their battle to keep the country running, against advise.

Are you sure it wasn't that they had to balance consequences of closing down everything with the consequences of not? Not an enviable position to be in, if you ask me.

I just spoke to a nurse on the NHS 111 line.
If after 7 days the fever and cough has gone, carry on with your normal life.
If after 7 days the fever has gone, but cough remains, carry on with normal life.
If in the following 7 days, the fever remains & severe lethargy and/or respiratory problems kick in, recall 111 to be assessed further! I imagine, or rather I'm hoping that would be when arrangements are made to be tested, but I received no firm answer.

I was phoning for a mate, you know the type, if he had a leg cut off and poked out his own eye, he'd look for his band aids rather than go to the hospital, so I phoned for him.
He's now in isolation, will keep a virtual eye on him couple times a day.

Dutch schools stay open.
That way the kids won't have to stay at home so the parents with PROPER jobs can still go to work ._.

A) People are desperately trying to balance keeping things moving (i.e. people fed, heated, watered, provided with essential drugs, and so on) with isolation. This is hard, I have been in some work discussions on a very low level and it's hard. Really hard.

Money is not the root of all evil, the people who own the money are, I would also suggest knee jerk reactions never work or impress anyone, so may I suggest another beer and a good nights sleep after all we the public have no control over it apart from being told to wash hands and stay 2 feet apart, how can you apportion blame on one person and call them a murderer, I'm of to bed

The point is different countries are just going with there best guess. Time will tell who made the right decisions,

Time will tell, I pray Boris is right but I fear not.
A couple of weeks closing schools and gatherings before a two week school Easter break could make all the difference but cash is king

Interesting for was at one point they said that they more less know the mortality rate and general statistics. In other section they have admitted that thousands more are infected, but they don't know because we didn't test enough. How can you base your statistics, if you have such huge estimate. For me it just look like a guess, but I think they want to appear convincing, to keep panic away?

TBH I'm lost, most of what they saying doesn't make sense to me, but again I don't know anything about spreading of infectious diseases.

It’s early days for comparison but it will be interesting to see the numbers regarding new cases in Italy, Republic of Ireland and France etc compared to here.
Surely we should be doing everything possible to limit this and we clearly aren’t.
Economy first, lives second
It’s a big gamble from the Tories but you couldn’t paint a brass neck on them anyway

@pms67 I agree with your general idea the governments reaction is bad (well its nothing really beyond telling people to use only the most basic amount of common sense). But I think Boris and the rest of government are taking advice from poor so called experts, I don't think anyone is thinking for only a few extra lives we can save millions of £s. I would also note they don't seem to be playing down the seriousness of it and don't seem to explain why the measures they suggest will be needed are better to delay.

I have edited several posts and deleted some from late last night Boris is not a murder and he is not making these decisions alone, we don't do heavy handed moderation here but any more of this trolling nonsense will lead to members losing their right to post here.

The latest advice is if someone in the house shows symptoms everyone in the house should put themselves into isolation, this has got to be a good move as I never understood how they thought self isolation in a house where you have young kids, no spare room and one toilet was going to work.
