I can personally vouch for the fact that large doses (1000mg) taken 3 times a day for the duration of a common cold reduces the symptoms significantly. Where did I get this gem of wisdom from? My GP.
Anybody wanting to use Vit C should get the tubes of 20 effervescent, 100 mg tablets from Lidl of Asda, they used to cosy £1 each. Otherwise, order a kilo of ascorbic acid from your homebrew supplier.

Now here's a racket: no you can't find large dose vit C in the supermarkets, nor can you get paracetamol, iboprufen or most of the normal stuff you would take for run of the mill ailments. The pharmacies have a monopoly on all this stuff. There's plenty on amazon.co.ukDunno about trying to get vit c in supermarkets in France but the one's in London are all out of many vitamin, particularly vit C and D

I meant vit C is available on Amazon, I wasn't suggesting non prescription meds.You're right its a racket. I think people might be wary of getting non prescription meds of the internet though, and trust the high street (pharmacies and supermarkets) more
