This has been quite an incredible act of self harm by both the BBC and the Tories. Both of whom have whipped themselves into such a seething froth that they completely forgot to check for the possibility of glaring double standards....

Good. Get it right up them.

I think the word hypocrisy needs to be reexamined/redefined. I suspect if we are honest we could all be hypocritical over one thing or another and that the way forward is to try to be less.

Hypocrisy or not goes hand in hand with making a judgement of others. Maybe we should be less judgemental?

Like a vegetarian who wears leather shoes and whose car has leather seats. Or the anti-american colleague who used apple and Microsoft products.

As for myself I want to use less of the planets resources but I love our cars, so while I try to use them less does that make it worse all those resources consumed and not used to make the most of them.?

I do enjoy a debate to a point in so much I hope to learn from the other person's point of view. I suppose if I feel that I'm having it rammed down my throat that's when the shutters go up 🤔

Thats what I like about this forum, I'm reasonably sure whatever else we may disagree on we all are here to pay homage to the wonders of fermentation 😁

MoTd might be better without any presenters. Those refusing to take over may want to do it if they were offered Linekers wage.

I have never liked Lineker as a person he always come's across as, one of those smarmy it's all about me people who will throw an occasional comment to whip up a media frenzy to keep his self in the frame, so apart from that being the face of walkers crisps and a pretty good footballer there is not much else, so i tend not to listen to what he has to say

Thinking about it the BBC and all who work there must be out of the same mould, otherwise your principles would kick in and you would leave so in summary they are all full of sh--e

Strange how different perceptions can be. He's always struck me as a decent, down-to-earth earth guy who's always had time for a chat on the rare occasions we've crossed paths. Not to mention he's one of the few that puts his money where his mouth is when he makes appeals for compassion.

I doubt he'll be losing much sleep over this. He has more money than he knows what to do with. Would you abandon your beliefs (whatever they may be) for a wee bit more?

Tbh, the furore now is less about what Lineker said, which was absolutely spot on, and more about the BBCs response, which they have absolutely butchered.

That said, one thing this does show is that political discourse is dead, and critical thinking skills are at an all time low in this country

The policy itself is the most cruel, cynical dead cat imaginable. Rotten red meat thrown to the worst of the worst of Tory supporters, by a dead government who have absolutely burned through what competent/charismatic (not you Boris) personnel they had at their disposal through a combination of the sort of corruption, ruthless ambition and backstabbing that has become the byeline for the government and this Tory party.

Unworkable nonsense to combat a borderline fictional problem in the overall "culture war" this govt has fabricated. The "culture war" is in fact, the latent desires of those on the political right to be allowed to punch down at those who cannot punch back with complete impunity, which obviously helps the fuel the delicious irony of the current shrieking for Gary Lineker to be cancelled. Its all very "snowflake". Its happening without a shred of self awareness.

Another hallmark of this debate is a complete lack of anyone bothering to find out how the immigration/asylum system works. This is why we have people repeating lines like "well they should come here by legal means". Despite legal avenues having g been actively shut down.

To be clear, if you are on the side that sends a tweet crowing about denying people access too modern slavery protections, you are on the wrong side.
