just been reading the thread below about working out a content of alcohol with out the aid of a sugar reding.

i think i used a small vinometer years ago, a small glass tube on the end of a thimble sided top that you used to pour the wine into and wiat till it dripped out the end and then you upturned it to read the alc content off the scale.

since with most things in life every thing moves on, we now use electronic Ph testers rather than litmus paper, sugar quants are also electronicly calibrated ect,, is there an electronic form of alcohol content tester avalible to buy and or use.

how do the customs people test spirits or do they have to be supplied with sugar content lists.

so does anyone know of a digital alcohol tester we can buy for a tenner from china??

Refractometer (that works over the right range...)
Around 200 quid for a 'proper' one, or 15ish from China.

customs test a spirit with a hydrometer for spirits cant be used for beer or wine though because of liquid density's
