Will rugby supporters soon be banned from singing it?

A bloke on the radio is saying its a song of freedom not racist and it shouldn't be banned.

I'm not a fan of banning anything, but I do think that we need to take a look at ourselves over some of the songs that we are happy to sing at rugby and football matches.

I find GSTQ particularly nauseating.

Doing a quick google, it originates as an African American spiritual song. So it's like singing a hymn. So I'm not sure why it would be banned

I don't think it's the lyrics that are the problem, it's either links to slavery (which appear to be pretty tenuous) or cultural appropriation from black culture which I also don't agree is relevant here as it was written by a native American. It apparently became a rugby anthem after it was sung to Martin "Chariots" Offiah, the greatest winger I've ever watched in person, at a sevens tournament in the 1980s.

Apparently Uncle Ben's rice is under fire because the logo shows a black man. So what? The man from Del Monte is white, but I guess that's not the same. As usual, it's all going too far and politicians of all colours are bending over backwards to be seen to do the right thing. How about people just show respect to each other regardless of colour, religion, sexuality etc., and those who can't are subject to the law?

I'm responding in my usual "light hearted" and more than usual,daft way.
If I've offended anyone well I apologize..but I thought such subjects would be hidden for discussion in sensible ways by sensible people..and definitely not drunk ones (I'm not drunk ..yet).
