Yep - V sturdy. Works brilliantly and its v long. Only drawback is when you remove the end from a narrow neck it compresses then uncompresses violently so you have to be prepared for that splash (you see they don't show that part in the video....)

I have seen them on Amazon - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00I3I5FZQ/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20

I made a degassing wand similar to the Fizz X Wine Degasser below and it worked really well until the nut and bolt started to rust (not stainless) you can get 5% off if you use the codes in the sponsor forum.

Fizz X Wine Degasser

The Fizz-X Degasser is the premier wine degassing tool. Made from food grade stainless steel, it is built to last for years. Attaches to any standard handheld drill. Start off slow and reverse directions often for the ultimate degassing experience!

Searched Amazon earlier and only came up with 'unavailable'. Strange.

Thanks to threads here I made the one below. Cost nothing and whipped up a category 5 twister a couple of days back so will do me unless I find it struggles in a 5 gallon dj ( which is arriving in an hour or so ! )

That's the one I had initially (the x-fizz one).

Note the bung on it is for 1g DJs anything bigger it falls in so you have to hold it out while drilling.

Great stuff. Anyway i recommend it. No vortex generated by it so less chance of aerating the wine.

I use my coat hanger degassing wand in my 5 gallon FV with no problems.

Didn't realise this could have the reverse effect of putting air in!

If you use the forward for a few seconds then reverse for a few seconds method no vortex is created, i have been using this method with a home made degassing wand for more than 3 years and have never had a wine spoil.

I have always been lead to believe adding air is a no no, i have also noticed degassing is a lot more effective if you switch from forward to reverse regularly.

Hello, first post, apologies if this is in the wrong place. Noob question: when making WOWs why do you top up with water rather than using the full DJ volume of juice? Is it to do with cost, or would a WOW made from 100% juice have the wrong taste?

Most folk reckon there is little to no benefit in the final product when using more than 2 or 3 litres of juice in total.

I have only ever used a litre of each juice (two total) but have recently started topping up with half a litre of apple juice then water, Ihave never tried all juice but think it would be overpowering, the aim with WOW variants is to mimic wine i don't think a full DJ of juice would give the right result.

:thumb: Thanks for the replies. Makes sense that a DJ full of juice might be overpowering and not very wine-like. I think I might try one though ...just for the purposes of research. I'll let you know how it goes.

Cheers.

Continuing in the same vein I am going to try 'Richard's red' wine recipe that I found on here. Requires 3 x grape juice plus enricher and a tad water. Will do this with Waitrose Merlot grape 100%. Time will tell. :thumb:

Good to see the results let me know. I offer wondered what it would be like.
