I've seen three months recommended, don't know myself, currently working through a few bottles (apple and also some mixed peach/tropical fruit combo). The later is quite nice planning on leaving a bottle for Christmas (racked start of this month) for testing purposes. I don't think (and again, could be wrong) that these wines would stand a year or two.

See Rodders post 5 up. As long as you stabilize and it's kept well I think it's fine. Just might not improve much after a few months.
 
After 2 previous WOW Successes I’m going to start another 2 DJs,

First one 1.5L apple, 1L RGJ
The second 1L Apple, 1L RGJ & 1L pineapple

I have some spare raisins in the house, has anyone had success adding a handful to the DJ, I’ve read it can add body, cheers!
 
I found this in an old thread here -

Sultanas and raisins can help to add vinosity, but they do need to be rinsed in boiling water. When I use them I throw them in in the pan with the sugar and bring the whole lot to the boil to dissolve the sugar. I use about 100g in a 25lt brew. In a white wine they add a degree of golden hue. Which may or may not be wanted for the style you are making. So use with caution.

Personally I like pineapple in a WOW but find 1/2 a litre to be about right. I did a "Lilt" WOW that had pink grapefruit and pineapple juice in that was very popular.
 
Another 3 lots completed… Mango Rose 12.7%, Cherry Rose (delicious btw!) 12.5% & Raspberry/Mango 13.3%…

Just started 2 DJs of SJW

1Ltr 100% Asda Red Grape
1Ltr 100% Asda Apple Juice
1Ltr 20% Asda Cranberry Juice
850g sugar
3 bag tea
1tsp pectolase
1tsp nutrient
1tsp yeast (see below)

I've read several threads on Youngs yeast and must confess I wasn't aware that Youngs Dried Active Yeast was only intended for lower ABV wines and beer. Im pretty sure I've had 12-13% from this yeast 🤔

So I've done identical batches, one with Youngs Dried Active Yeast and the other with Youngs Super Wine Yeast Compound.

Time ⏲ will tell 🤔

OG 1095 on both

When i first started I used the youngs super wine yeast compound as that was all i could get here it did the job so i carried on using it, i never had a wine fail to ferment so i would say its a good general purpose yeast
(i did add a little nutrient just to be on the safe side)

Its generally agreed the original Wurzels Orange Wine (WOW) isn't very nice and few make it a second time the good news is the method used in the videos below is the same for all supermarket juice so if you are not keen on the sound of orange wine read on -


Some members are finding their supermarkets are not stocking White grape juice but have Red grape juice, Red grape juice goes well with apple, cranberry, pomegranate or raspberry juice,
Red grape juice does not make red wine it ends up like a shop bought Rosé wine .

In the video below he makes orange wine and uses 1 litre of orange juice and 1 litre of white grape juice you can switch this for any other juice and also use red grape juice if you cannot find white grape juice.

Some supermarket juices (Pomegranate, cranberry etc) are less than 50% juice so you need to add two of these to one of 100% grape juice per Demijohn (DJ).

The two videos below show you the ingredients and the method.

Don't take too much notice of the time quoted for clearing as he intended to let it clear naturally if you use wine finings (KwiK Clear or Youngs Clear It) it only takes 48 hours.

To give it a little extra flavour we now use 1.5 litres of apple juice to 1 litre of Red Grape Juice and reduce the sugar by 50g to keep the ABV% the same as in the original.



Part 1 -





A couple of minor mistakes in the Video -

Pectolase is used to reduce the risk of pectin haze.

Glycerine is added to improve mouth feel. (many member no longer use this as we found it doesn't actually make that much difference)

Leave more headspace in the Demijohn than in the video or it will come through the airlock (as it does in the video) and don't top up until until you have racked (syphoned) to the second DJ and degassed your wine, you need a bit of space when shaking the DJ to get rid of the CO2 and especially if using a drill attachment to degas it.

When racking to the second DJ he says it doesn't matter if a little sediment gets through as you will probably be re-racking again, there is no need to rack to a third DJ as your wine will be crystal clear after you have added finings (KwiK Clear or Youngs Clear It) to the second DJ.

Part 2 -








Rosé wine

1 litre Red grape juice.

1.5 litre Apple Juice.

750g Sugar.

1 tsp Tannin or a mug of very strong black tea. (3 bags stirred every couple of minutes as you put the rest of the ingredients together)

1 tsp Yeast (i use youngs super wine yeast compound)

1 tsp Yeast Nutrient.

1 tsp Pectolase.

1 tsp Glycerine. (optional)

1 tsp citric acid or juice of one lemon. (optional)

Hi Chippy Tea
I have noticed on these super market recipes most say use citric acid but no mention of acid blend is there a reason for this ?

Citric acid was part of the standard recipe back in 2013 but people stopped using it over the years as it made little difference hence why its now marked optional, we all use glycerine back then but over the years everyone stopped so again its now marked optional.
 
Has anyone done a supermarket juice wine using orange juice.. saw at beginning of thread people say not very good. Seen a vid on utube using 3 ltrs OJ and said it was good but would rather trust this forum. No point making if undrinkable.
 
In the videos in the first post of this thread he makes a DJ of Orange wine and a DJ of apple wine.

Are those first two the ones people don't make a second time or did Worzel make one from only OJ first.?
Have seen all the other recipes posted in this thread for juice wines from you and many others which i will deffo be trying so a big thanks for those but still not sure if it's worth doing one with only OJ and water.

Ive not been around here too long but I get the impression the original WOW used White Grape Juice which you can't get anymore. People tried using Red Grape Juice but the general opinion was 💩😂

Now whether anyone has tried just Orange Juice, I'm not sure 🤔
