Hi folks, I haven't had any time for brewing lately but picked some juice up from tesco the other day, hoping to get a Rose' on the go using rgj and tesco 'forest fruit juice'.I was wondering if anyone has used this?(in place of the apple juice), thanks

Hi all

I've been struggling this issue, and have spotted this...

I used a don simon peach and white grape juice to make a "lilt" WOW that was excellent, but since I made it u can no longer buy the juice.

Has anyone tried using tinned peaches in grape juice as a WOW ingredient?

If so would u remove some peaches and just use the juice in case their flavour was too pronounced!

E.g.. 4 tins but only the peaches from 2 of the tins blended and chucked in with other ingredients.

Members generally use cartons of juice so i don't think you will get an answer why not give it a try and see how t turns out.
 
Red grape juice makes decent wine.
Yes, it turns out great, I started a Rose' using the tesco forest fruit juice from a few posts up, really dark in the demi, chugging away nicely.I'm going to buy a ltr of white grape concentrate (£12)as it should do 4,x1 gallon brews.Ive never used wgj so worth a go just to compare.athumb..
 
What is the intended use of the Wilko grape juice? I have been adding it to a few of my mixed juice wines along with water just to top up the Demi John. I am thinking it wouldn’t work on its own
 
I was going to make a gallon brew using 1.5 ltr apple juice and 250ml white concentrate in place of 1ltr wgj ( no longer available in supermarket) hopefully make an ok white wine.

The Wilko grape juice concentrate description is below, when WGJ becam scarce members suggested you could use the full 220ml bottle in place of a litre of WGJ I don't know if anyone ever did.

I know I am repeating myself but give red grape juice a try it makes a light coloured Rose wine but to me it tastes somewhere between a white and Rose.


This Italian white grape concentrate is an ideal addition to your country wine recipe to add extra body and roundness and generally improve the final flavour and finish. Perfect for lighter wine styles such as elderflower.

Some members are finding their supermarkets are not stocking White grape juice but have Red grape juice, Red grape juice goes well with apple, cranberry, pomegranate or raspberry juice,
Red grape juice does not make red wine it ends up like a shop bought Rose wine.

In the video below he makes orange wine and uses 1 litre of orange juice and 1 litre of white grape juice you can switch this for any other juice and also use red grape juice if you cannot find white grape juice.

Some supermarket juices (Pomegranate, cranberry etc) are less than 50% juice so you need to add two of these to one of 100% grape juice per Demijohn (DJ).

The two videos below show you the ingredients and the method.

Don't take too much notice of the time quoted for clearing as he intended to let it clear naturally (which can take several weeks) if you use KwiK Clear or youngs Clear It it only takes 48 hours.

To give it a little extra flavour we now use 1.5 litres of apple juice to 1 litre of Red Grape Juice and reduce the sugar by 50g to keep the ABV% the same as in the original.



Part 1 -





A couple of minor mistakes in the Video -

Pectolase is used to reduce the risk of pectin haze.

Glycerine is added to improve mouth feel. (many member no longer use this as we found it doesn't actually make that much difference)

Leave more headspace in the Demijohn than in the video or it will come through the airlock (as it does in the video) and don't top up until until you have racked (syphoned) to the second DJ and degassed your wine, you need a bit of space when shaking the DJ to get rid of the CO2 and especially if using a drill attachment to degas it.

When racking to the second DJ he says it doesn't matter if a little sediment gets through as you will probably be re-racking again, there is no need to rack to a third DJ as your wine will be crystal clear after you have added finings (KwiK Clear or Youngs Clear It) to the second DJ.

Part 2 -





Rose wine

1 litre Red grape juice.

1.5 litre Apple Juice.

750g Sugar.

1 tsp Tannin or a mug of very strong black tea. (3 bags stirred every couple of minutes as you put the rest of the ingredients together)

1 tsp Yeast (i use youngs super wine yeast compound)

1 tsp Yeast Nutrient.

1 tsp Pectolase.

1 tsp Glycerine. (optional)

1 tsp citric acid or juice of one lemon. (optional)

Latest creation, bit of an experiment

2 x 500 grm bags frozen mixed berries from Lidl
1 x punnet raspberries
1 x jar clear honey
450 grm sugar
Lemon juice
Black tea
Yeast
Yeast Nutrient
Pectolase
Glysterine

Probably best one yet but only if you like your wine sweet

Almost all of my wines are made from supermarket juice. (best thing supermarkets have ever done.)
Its just outrageously cost effective.
A smaller amount is made from local berries.
