I have read in quite a few topics how sunlight and clear bottles can cause problems and my FV placement in my kitchen and also King Keg placement for secondary fermenting mean that they may be exposed to sunlight during the day. Well the small amount we get during winter months

Can this cause any problems to my opaque FV and KK ?

I am just trying to work out which things can effect my brews.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Interested in following this as my first brew has a bit of a taste to it that my second (wrapped in a quilt all the time) does not.

Hard to know if it is the light though as there are many variables in my case (different kit, totally different style (dark ale vs golden ale), different type of fermenter, one open the other under airlock and also the second brew is not clear nor conditioned yet). Incidentally my first batch of TC was fermented in an airlocked fermenter but in the light and came out very nicely - clearly no hops to be affected by the light but I wonder if in my case it is more to do with airlocking rather than sunlight affecting the brew? My brews take quite some time to ferment as the house is not overly warm and so I have a room temperature of about 18 c at present which obviously drops overnight so there is a little fermentation action in the airlock after 3 weeks.

I'm thinking of trying the next batch in the loft where I keep the beers for conditioning as although cold will be dark all the time. I would use lagging and an aquarium heater to counteract the cold conditions.

Sunlight is nog a friend of you're beer. That means you must nog expose you're (fermenting) beer to direct sunlight. But a little bit of dayligt can't hurt you're beer that much.

Yes, the hops will still skunk. take it from somebody who left a goldings IPA the conservatory for 2 weeks during the summer by accident.

hop skunking has an awful wishy washy chemically taste, it's just not good. it's very simple to cover your beer with a cardboard box or a thick blanket so just do it! the beer you drink in pubs is almost never exposed to light - think about it!
