I am taking the plunge into AG brewing.
What recipe would the brewer gurus recommend for a very first AG brew?
I want to brew something not too complicated, it must taste good and that will be drinkable in a fairly short time.
Reason being that I would not be able to wait months and months to taste it :D
Thanks in advance.
Barry.

Personally I would go with pale malt, some crystal malt with challenger for bittering and either east Kent goldings or styrian goldings for aroma.

4 kg of grain like marris otter will give you approx 4% for a 23 liter brew ,the lower the % the quicker to be ready for drinking add 200g of crystal for a bit more taste , hops ibu 30/40 seems standard for a bitter .

I followed BrewStew's guide for my first AG. The guide was great but the beer turned out... OK. Smoked beer is a bit of an acquired taste IMO. I made it last Oct and still have plenty left whilst many made since have been and gone.

+1 to following Stu's guide , I printed it out and had it next to me during 1st AG brew although I did change the recipe to a HopBack Summer lightening clone

I would always recommend a stout for the first all grain, they are very safe, and resilient to process mishaps

Brewstews recipe but modified as follows

4.00kg Maris Otter
1.00kg Flaked Barley
0.50kg Roasted Barley

Hops and everything else as specified.
