As a new brewer all I do is kits from Tesco or Wilko and follow the guide to the letter. I have go a kit ready to do to the usual 23L with 1KG or sugar (wilko's own brand). I have read people putting spray malt it. The packet says it adds extra body and to replace the 500g bag for 500g of the sugar so I would have 500g spare. However, I have read people putting in all the sugar. What would this do if I used the 1.5kg sugar combined with the standard kit.

sugar can thin out the flavour of a brew, replacing it all with dme will help with flavour, body. so will brewing it short 20L, i think a most of the lager kits come with ale yeast so getting the right yeast to do the job will help.

putting all your questions in one thread will help instead of have 3 or 4 on the same lines

Yeasts eat simple sugars glucose, fructose, the constituents of more complex
white sugar breaks down into simple sugars to feed the yeast and create alcohol, malt is a more complex mix of sugars and not all can be digested as easily by the yeats leaving more residual compounds providing colour and flavor as well as fuel to produce alcohol.

a sugar solution fermented would be clear and without any of the nice tasting flavors, so would get u drunk but wouldn't be a pleasant sup.

kits generally contain enough flavor in the lme (liuid malt extract) to be considered good enough when made up with sugar, you can brew a different drink by supplementing with malt instead. - depends on your taste.
