Light Mild

Gravity down to 1.011 on day 5, well it was probably day 2 according to ispindle but I’ve just taken a hydrometer reading to confirm. Nice golden colour and tasting good. Might bottle on day 7 for a fast turnaround with a view to another brew!

Light Mild

Bottled today on day 7. OG was actually 1.012, giving me target of 3.8%.

I’ve had trouble using Windsor on it’s own before, specifically once bottled; it just wouldn’t clear but my mash temp was incorrectly too high 🤔

Decided not to get my next brew on this side of Christmas, as my empty bottle stock is low and everything in the bottle is still conditioning.

I actually enjoy using brewfather to create recipes, many I never brew; to me it's almost as enjoyable as drinking the beer itself.

Love that I'm not on my own in spending too much time on Brewfather, tinkering with recipes.
I regularly have 3 or 4 recipes being tinkered with and ready to brew. So much to brew, so little time!

I still consider myself a real rookie at this stuff and find it really interesting to create my own recipes with some vague idea of what they should be, make the stuff and look back to see how similar / different the result is from the plan...

I’ve just counted 12 unbrewed recipes in my account, which might eventually be brewed, tweaked or deleted, plus 3 which are in line to be brewed before start of spring.

If only I had space for more fv and bottles, or a kegerator…

Light Mild

First taste at 15 days in the bottle. Opened over sink with a hiss and thankfully no gush. Poured with a little head in a nucleated glass.

I didn’t fridge this, where I condition bottles was cold enough. Cleared well, even with Windsor working on its own.

At 3.9% it feels a fuller beer…. Just a particular lingering taste, I thinking it could be the Vienna malt?

Oatmeal Stout

Another first taste. 27 days in the bottle. Like the mild, I didn’t refrigerate before trying.

Opened with a good hiss and did start to gush, but still manage a decent pour. Good head, but did dissipate.

11% torrefied oats do provide some silkiness and dark crystal some sweetness, but the brown and black malts do make it a little similar to my porter.

(Potluck) Porter

49 days in the bottle and the good bottles are (very) good, but the bad are bad!

Tonight, 4 out of 6 have been gushers. What do you do with known bad bottles, cut your losses and get rid?

The head didn’t last on the good bottles, probably would have on a nucleated glass (I do see a difference, on home and commercial).

I think the 1st oatmeal stout I had earlier might be in a bad bottle, a little more time might increase the gushiness!!

Golden Hour - Endeavour

First brew of the year, a simple almost smash ale.

94.1% Maris Otter
5.9% Torrefied Wheat

Hopped with Endeavour at 20, 10 and flame out.

OG 1.040 (missed target by 2pts) but I’m sure the notts will perform better than what brewfather says.
