I just thought it would be interesting to ask if anybody has successfully made any odd flavour combinations on the wine front. I am currently brewing a GARLIC wine (which smells absolutely disgusting so i dont think ill make another of those :sick: ) aswell as a ginger and scotch bonnet wine and a scotch bonnet capsicumel which even looks like it is capable of seriously upsetting a simple palate.

So i was wondering if any fellow homebrewer has ventured into the unknown?
 
I did a pumpkin wine before xmass, they have all these cheap pumpkins for halloween and it just seemed such a waist just to carve them and not use everything that wasnt needed :D

came out quite nice in the end
 
I was in the Isle of White last year at the garlic festival. They had garlic beer there and I have to say it was as good as the live band, who were Dodgey, from the 90's :rofl:
 
My favorite oddball wine was made from discarded marijuana stems which the bloke downstairs had no use for and wanted to dispose of out of the greenhouse. Not great on flavour, but...
 
I've not yet, but I've got a few planned, just need to get the ingredients together (sadly you can't just go out and buy nasturtium petals) and a few more in the stages of being planned

You can easily grow Nastyurchins and harvest the petals. The petals and the smaller leaves go well in a salad.

Finally my sprout wine is being recognised as a sensible and serious endeavour! :party:

I've found a recipe for carnation wine that I'm tempted to try - not sure my dad will like it if I decapitate his prize-winning 'pinks' though... :twisted:

I've had that. It appeared to be a fairly cheap lager with bits of garlic chucked in, rather than anything actually brewed with garlic. It wasn't bad if you like cheap lager and can't really taste the garlic coz of all the other garlic stuff you've already eaten. Esp on a hot day.

Ha ha, for a minute there I thought you meant tinned condensed milk "carnation" :sick:
 
Technically Wine is only made from grape. :eek:

As I have got older my palette has desired good full bodied reds so the only wine I know do is a beaverdale Cab Sauv.

I don't see the point of brewing something just because I can especially if you are not going to enjoy the 'fruits' of your labour.

Just one thought on the garlic wine, perhaps you would have been better off roasting the garlic first, roasted garlic doesn't taste anything like garlic, a lot sweeter. :thumb: :thumb:

He grows them on his allotment - so blaming the dog won't work - although we have had some problems with deer getting on the plots... :whistle:

Don't you have any REAL wine??? :tongue:

The legal term in the UK for 'wines' made by fermenting anything but grapes is 'made-wine'. :ugeek:

Yes a collection of aged elderberry ports the oldest being 20 yrs and the newest 10, also some elderberry and some blackberry wines which are also 12 -15 yrs old.

Why do you think I'm waiting on getting the ingredients together :D I know our soil is good for them, our front garden used to be mainly nasturtiums. I've got the seed packs ready
 
Oh yeah, forgot to mention the celery wine I have going. Had a taste while racking just, tastes pretty good considering it is made of celery.
 
I tend to stay away from insane stuff these days, beer wise my daftest was probably rum and raisin stout, which came out very nice anyway.

probably the most "interesting" wine recipe was a 15% cocktail base I made when I started brewing. 2 tins of fruit cocktail, sugar until it's 15%, then more to sweeten. It was actually pretty palatable, I made it to mix with lemonade/fruit and drink over ice. winey certainly, somewhat like MD 20/20, but by no means a failure. Could be one to experiment with in future :)
