I guess it depends on the size of the biggest gas ring, my biggest gas ring only just about gets a 15L pot to a rolling boil.

Aye, I wish I'd gone for the stove with the wok burner that we were thinking about before we got this one we've got now.

I do maxi biab. My biggest gas ring can get a rolling boil with my 19L pot filled to 18L/18.5L. I don't think it would be able t handle much more than that but I make a concentrated wort and dilute it down in the FV to 23L/24L (depending on how effcient my mash was - I usually set brewmate at 72%)

Is that as simple as using the full grain and hop bill for a full 23 litre brew, but simply mashing and boiling with as much water as your pot can take, adding the rest in the fv, or is it more complicated than that?

Yes. It's as simple as that. You just need to do a bit of extra sparging as the mash water get so saturated with sugars. I do two dunk sparges, one with 6.7L and the second with 3.4L. Plus I add and extra 5 IBU per brew to account for the fact that you get lower hop utilisation in concentrated wort

I brewed at a mate's house today with a new pot he's bought and it easily boiled 15 litres of wort on one gas ring with the gas turned well down - the new pot made a huge difference compared to the old one. I never realised two pots could be so different, and now I want one cos mine just about boils ten litres on my stove on the biggest ring at full throttle.

That is interesting - can you outline the key features of each, please?

I seem to have no problems keeping what I think is a decent boil on the largest gas ring, on minimum setting, using a Wilko 12.5L pot (max fill 15L). Having done many such efforts, I think it is useful to know which pots are most suitable.

Stove top brewing is very accessible with minimal outlay and produces pretty good results, IMO.

Stove top brewing can produce award winning results.

The old pot is thin steel, thin base, everything is thin.

The new pot is also steel but the base is very thick and the walls are also very solid. I don't know the specifics sorry, just what I saw.

The pot heated up the mash water quickly, got the beer to boiling point quickly, and the beer cooled quickly - it was down to 25C in the sink after about an hour, bit more perhaps. Also, the mash only lost 0.5C. i'll try to find out more about it.

Just ordered the Doom Bar grain clone from The Malt Miller.
Going to do it in 2 pans on the stove.

Any one know what size pots I should use?
It will be on my electric hob.
Is it feesable to do the small volume mash.
Sparge well to make a concentrated wort and add water to the fermenting vessel to make the 23 litres.

Some people do that yes, but you need to up the quantities of hops to account for the lower hop utilisation.

What size pot have you got?
