Sorry about the title but thats all the info i have!

My brotherinlaw gave me a pint of his stout he'd done 6 weeks ago (he can't remeber which brand it was) and to be honest i didn't really like it, i didn't tell him that though as he was very proud of it.

The only way i can describe it is a slightly malty alcoholic vimto  im prety sure it was a 1 can kit done with table sugar, nothing like the guinessy (spelling) taste i was expecting.

Is this the norm with stouts, fruity flavours (etc) as i like mine to be more guinessy (spelling again).
Which stout would you recomend either Kit or AG.

Thanks

Andy

This one was just really fruity and hardly any bitterness.
Are there any that are like a guiness?

Sounds like it might have still been quite young, the stouts do take a while to get to their best, I'd say a min of around 3 months in the bottle.

Always had great success with Coopers Stout, and to me it tastes like Guiness only better :) Did my last one with Beer Enhancer, but the best one I've made was at the end of last year with a full tin of Coopers Dark Malt Extract, that one was heavenly :D

It was 6 weeks in the bottle so not too young!
Like the sound of your second brew :hmm:

I bought -"This Brewmaker Irish Velvet Dark Stout is a very special homebrew of exceptional quality, strength and flavour for three fundimental reasons. Firstly,we give you a full 1.8kg of concentrated English malted barley. Secondly.only the very malting barley and hops are used, blended to an original formula,to give you the traditional strength and flavour of “real” beer. Lastly,we use a genuine brewers yeast, which means fast fermentation and clearing, with no yeasty “off” flavours.
These Three special factors give you the traditional flavour and strength of beer as it used to be,Because we use above average quantities of high quality ingredients, beer from this Brewmaker Irish Velvet Dark Stout kit may cost a little more but we think its worth the extra."

on the recommendation of my LHBS who said it was his best selling stout as well as Coopers. It's my next brew on and I'm looking forward to supping it over this Winter. I'm also going to add a 1.5kg tin of Coopers Dark Malt Extract to it.
