I've ordered 50 of these which I think will do the job. They are the same material as those above and the dimensions look perfect: 13mm internal diameter x 3mm profile. These have a circular profile - not sure if yours above do - but I think they'll work!

Sounds good, let us know how you get on :thumb:

OK, the O rings are here and seem to do the job! [Edit - For anyone looking after the link in my previous post expires, they a Nitrile O rings with 13mm internal diameter and 3mm profile. (19mm external diameter)]

They don't stay on the very first bit of the plug, tight under the top ledge, because of their round (doughnut) profile, but sit just onto the very top of the plug's 'thread'. The bottom of the old-style rubbers used to reach down to the same place, so the plug (with the new seals) goes just as far into the bottle as with the old ones - I tried the old next to the new.

I've filled a bottle with water and put it upside down, shaken around and left for an hour. So far, no sign of any leaks at all!

These rings just perished while still on their first batch!!! The nitrile just seems too brittle/unstretchy. So, back to square one. The Hop Shop's offering is nitrile too, I think.

What I really want is 13mm internal diameter natural rubber tubing (or pre-cut rings therefrom) like this on ebayUS

Despite a fair bit of googling, I just can't source any over here. Maybe I should import a great length of it and set up shop!

Anyone know where else to get some? There's plenty of autograde/silicone hosing around, but I don't think it is strictly food grade, and probably stiffer and plasticky.

OK, so I managed to buy 32 of these bottle on ebay last night for 99p - a bargain. However they all need the same, now perished, seals. I've been looking around and trying to find something to use what I have found is the Natural Rubber Tubing described - which can be bought at a website I found.

However me being relatively new I'm unable to post the blooming link cost the comment looks to spammy for a new user. Damn annoying. I can try and PM the link to anyone that wants it though.

12.5mm ID natural rubber tubing.

Thought you might be interested in that morethanworts

**** website and I didn't get through to the payment screen (to see if it was secure) since the hose is £6.66 a meter - but delivery is £6.50 + vat which no option for a cheap RM packet - so at £14.50ish for a meter I was put off....

Before I potentially bite the bullet - I was hoping Hawks could provide some feedback on the seals he bought from the hop shop given that these work out at £8.50 and don't require me to cut them up! :)

Alternative is if a load of people are after some of this tubing I can order a load and split the cost 2/3 or 4 ways and then charge cost + delivery (which I imagine would be about a £1.50. So it would work out cheaper, if three bought it would be about £10.75 a meter as opposed to nearly £15?

I found the link, but never ordered any

A lot of mine are in reasonable condition still, so never bothered and was hoping to get some good feedback on other options.

Just gooled bottle stopper seals

Any good?

They do say 'Amber' bottles in the list, but these are a completely different design to the originals. (flat washer swing-top type, versus tube section) When I look at the stoppers, I can't see how they'd work that well. I may be wrong. The originals used to 'jam' in really well and were soft enough to get in the nooks. The leather punches would only create the same sort of design, but thanks for both suggestions.

Tarquinkrikery - Well spotted. Please PM me the link, yes - I'd like to have one definite option. I think I'll stick it out a little longer for a cheaper source (or at least cheaper delivery). Perhaps they have a phone number and would consider a better deal on the postage?

It appears that 1/2" ID (13mm) natural rubber tubing is listed for 'surgical' use in at least one place.

@Doingatun,
These are exclusively for swing top bottles, they are flat. No good for the old beer bottles under discussion.

If read on it says...

Fits Ceramic and Plastic Stoppers....Replaces Seals on Amber, Costalata and Roma Bottles.

Not sure if LeithR saw that too, but I still can't see how a flat washer design would work very well, when you look at the stoppers. In any case, £1 for 4 would still cost me £9 plus delivery to replace my lot, with none spare (unlike the tubing option).

The ebay link above is for 2-pint (quart) bottles, if anyone's looking and lives within range of Middlesborough. I used to have a couple. There's an excuse to have to drink two pints at a time!

OK so I contacted the company in question - hoseworld. Apologies I can't post any links - I'm too much of a Newbie apparently! :?

Anyway, I asked if they were willing to send via an alternative supplier, but they've had problems in the past with orders going missing etc. Shame really

still no bidders on the lot of 30 bottles i posted above and 3 days left

someone here must be close to Middlesborough and interested in acquiring these bottles

I would have gone for them myself but live to far away.

Hi all,
I've now received my packet of 50 washers from the hopshop as per Hawks's posting. They work perfectly and are easy to put on the bottle with no leaks etc... I've ordered another 150 to do the rest of my bottles. This is the way I'll be going.

Good luck to the rest of you in giving your old bottles a new lease of life.

Thanks to Hawks for finding the url. Cheers buddy!!  :hat:

LeithR - Two questions, if you're still watching this thread...

Did these ultimately work and last, rather than perish like my nitrile rings?

and...

What size of Hellermann pliers do you have there? (Bundle size/max diameter stretched)?
