Sorry to be a pain the proverbial, but what do yopu do regarding sterilizing the funnel you use to put the sugar in each bottle, to sterilize it you have to wet it, if you wet it you have to thoroughly dry it, or the sugar sticks to it, if you dry it, you need a tea towel, but a tea towel wont be sterile.

Is there a way around this, or do i just take a dry the funnel and take pot luck?

Thanks.

When I used a funnel gd, I would sanitize it and then dry it with a tea towel, not best practice. I would also try to add the sugar directly using a narrow measuring spoon.

Another 'better' way of adding priming sugars, is to dissolve the sugar in a known volume of water, boil it to sanitise it, and then add a certain amount of the sugar solution to each bottle using a sanitized syringe, or you could use a funnel.

For example, 10 bottles to be primed using 0.5 tsp of sugar per bottle. Dissolve the sugar in 20ml of water, boil it, then add 2mls to each bottle. The sugar will increase the volume and to be very accurate you should take that into account, but it's not worth getting hung up over it :thumb:

I use a funnel when priming, and I prime with caster sugar.

I've never sanitised my funnel, but I take care not to get it wet. I also never sanitise my sugar measure. I also don't sanitise my sugar, using it straight out of the packet as I buy it at the supermarket.

Occasionally, I put the funnel through the dishwasher. I reckon it gets me close enough.

It's never been a problem. The caster sugar is only in contact with the funnel for a split second, and I don't see how it could cause an infection in that time.

As for sterilising it, I think it would melt if I tried to boil the plastic funnel.
