What a disaster STC temperature probe became dislodged from the converted freezer fermentation cabinet, which of course continued to freeze. So I now have some very frozen lager and shattered bottles. Opps!!

OUCH!
I have mine in a dish with some water (and a tsp of bleach to stop it going off) in it to give me a buffer against sudden changes of temp, e.g. by me opening the fridge to get some beer.

I recommend Araldite the probe to the dish, and the super glue dish to the freezer/fridge! :D

I think I'm a little thick here, where had the probe gone?
Surely your stc was set up to maintain a certain temp thats around the probe...so why did it continue to get colder and colder...unless the probe head was outside the freezer ??

sorry if I've missed something ...

It was, it bl**** was, that was the problem, the prob head was not taped or fixed, I let it fall out of the freezer, didn't notice, I'm officially a plonker. :D
Wouldn't matter with a fridge so much, but a freezer oh dear!
What happens to lager thats frozen whilst it's lagering?
If its not all in broken bottles that is!

aaah I once stood for 10 mins wondering why my hlt was not getting warm and then noticed the probe still hung up in its rack checking air temp......

so your not the only plonker Rodney
