Does or had anyone used an stc 1000 to control their biab boiler. Is there any reason why this wouldn't work. Mac control temp of stc is 99.9°c so is that near enough for a rolling boil. When mashing it should keep it nice and stay I would think.

to control my BIAB bucket - with the probe in a theromwell, it works very well.
fill bucket, put in bag, set mash in temp, comes up to temp, mash in, reduce temp to desired mash temp, then mash for desired length (or step mash etc), then set to mash out temp, bring up to temp, pull the bag then set to 102c and leave it to come up to boil and beyond.
personally i love it and would have it no other way.

I have used insulation on mine its material rather like bubble wrap which has been silvered then over the top of that I've also applied an old Yoga mat. Doing this has enabled me to switch off my boiler at around 70*c to allow for the steep at 66*C. As its a new boiler I'm still learning its characteristics but it does not loose much temp in a 90 min mash, maybe 1.5 - 2*C.
Certainly doing the insulation work is much cheaper than using an STC to control the process.
