I’m looking into Brewing as a hobby and potentially for a little pocket change. I have brewed for a few years now but mainly from kits.

I was going to get a grainfather G30, Conical fermenter and Chiller as this is a close representation of large-scale brewing. I have since seen they are bringing out the G70.

I will be creating and testing different recipes until i can get something I’m happy with then ill move to small scale production.

I appreciate that the starting kit i get today will be very different to the larger scale equipment (and premises required) but i want the ability to trial recipes on a small scale but also have the ability to offer trial kegs to some bars and pubs.

Any recomendations on purchase choice will be greatfully recieved. I like the idea of automating the process as much as possible to ensure consistency from batch to batch.

Thanks in advance.

Can't help you in selecting kit but if one of your long term objectives is to sell beer you need to get registered with HMRC and that opens up a can of worms.
So if I were you I would be deciding now whether I still wanted to go down that route.
If you don't then your selection of kit might be different.
But if you do, you perhaps need to have a properly thought through long term plan in terms of end capacity so that you don't waste your money at this stage on expensive kit that ultimately becomes redundant.

Thanks for your reply terrym,

I already have a couple of businesses which are both registered at companies’ house, one of them is also VAT registered so I don’t have any problems there. When it comes to the selling of beer ill discuss the HMRC options with my accountant.

It’s just I’m looking into the choice of starter kit. Considering I will be creating small batches but will also want to trial kegs out there to see what works, is the grainfather G30 big enough or shall I get the G70 and x2 Conical fermenter and a. chiller.

I’m happy having a smaller footprint for trailing recipes.

Thanks,

G

This crops up from time to time on this forum and there are members on here who have direct experience of this and so will be best placed to advise. It crops up fairly regularly. Hopefully they will pick up. If not maybe start a new thread, say 'What's the process with HMRC if I want to sell my beer ?' Perhaps the mods could make it into a sticky. athumb..

Good idea. I know there are a few hoops to go through. Ill do that and start a new thread :)
