Luckily I have a cellar, which is about 18c at the moment and most of the summer, so mainly ferment down there, no space for a fridge to be honest, cellar is good for doing pilsners in the winter months.Nice one David cheers, I'm guessing you have yours in a tall fridge bud?
Lucky you pal! I recently moved my two fermenting fridges to the shed, but they were really struggling at nearly 30C outside. Cellar would have been perfect!Luckily I have a cellar, which is about 18c at the moment and most of the summer, so mainly ferment down there, no space for a fridge to be honest, cellar is good for doing pilsners in the winter months.
Thanks!
Any idea of the overall height with a typical airlock pal?
Not stainless steel, but Speidel make some really handy thick, food-grade, plastic ones which are easy to dismantle, clean and reassemble at about a third of the price of stainless. Sure, all the fittings, including the airlock bung hole are non-standard, but even so.Anyone got a 25 - 30L one they'd recommend which doesn't cost the earth?
Good advice about the tap instead of an airlock. I want to get a couple of sets of seals and lid gaskets, but haven't seen them advertised, Perhaps I'll have to go direct to Speidel.@An Ankoù - Great point! That's what I started with 5 years ago and still use them for ciders. Brilliant bit of reliable kit. But don't get the fermentation lock just get another tap fix to the top (same thread) and put pipe to a bubbler. (shorter height for fridges as well) Do not ever scrub of trub line as it can scratch HDPE surface. Use hot caustic or enzyclean. Get a spare top seal as well. Sorted!!
