Well took your advise and brewed it up tonight, how long would you recommend leaving this in the fv, this is my first ale, yesterday was my first wine kit, so got two fv's on the go at the mo, will be leaving it at that for now.

At least two weeks, maybe a little longer...
See you have brewed it fairly short , should have a bit of a kick !

Wait until the bubbler has nearly given up or leave it at least a week whichever is the longer, then take a peek under the lid, and if it looks like its clearing, start to take SG readings. Same reading on two or more consecutive days means its safe to bottle/keg. If you leave it the full two weeks, assuming its finished before then, it gives the brew more chance to clear and the yeast will continue to work on the beer to improve it's quality.

Just done one of these today, started bubbling after 40 minutes, but used the Gervin ale yeast instead of the supplied yeast.See how it goes.

Brewed as per instructions, said 19 litres which equates to 33 imperial pints, minus loss racking should give you the 32 quoted......I think

Yeah, sorry, most kits are 23L tho some of the stronger ales are brewed a bit shorter.
Don't rely on the airlock 'bubbling' as an indication of finished fermentation, gasses will find the easiest way out of your FV and it's not always the airlock. Use a hydrometer, a same reading over a couple of consecutive days indicates a finished fermentation, this should get down to 1014 or thereabouts .....
And don't be in a rush to bottle or keg, time in the primary FV is never wasted...

Had a bit of rise and fall but no co2 action as yet, wonder if that yeast was past it?

There is definitely a chance of that, if the kit has passed best before and the yeast has been stored at room temperature.

Your best option might be to pick up some of the Wilko ale yeast, if you have a store near you.

Don't leave it too long or you risk infection taking hold.

Thanks for that, I went and grabbed some today and banged it in, I was dubious about using the kit yeast in the first place, should have gone with my gut instinct and binned it for knew, learning curve noted.

Fingers crossed this'll work out :thumb:
