Spent yeast down the drain

Tried searching for this but no joy so..

Here's one for the chemists!

I live in a very rural area so our drainage is to a septic tank. Question then is - is it ok to throw the spent yeast/trub down the plughole - will it upset the delicate ecosystem of my septic tank.

Don't want to bugger it up as it could be very costly. The other option is down the drains at the side of the road but again don't want to cause issues.

Why pour it down the drain when you can pour on your plants or compost heap as it's only bio matter.

I too live in a very rural area and have a septic tank and the last house also had a septic tank, never had any problems with tipping the trub down the sink, but if you have a composter then +1 for that also.

We have a septic tank and I'd always put it straight down the bog with no problems whatsoever. But, as I have no inclination to taste the contents of said tank to see whether it's turned to beer, I'm going to put it on the compost from now on.

You could feed it to some pigs, that's what fullers does with it's 'used' yeast apparently

It's good for both compost and septic tanks. I think live yeast can hurt some animals but not sure which so I think its normally dead yeast that's used for animal feed but could be wrong.

It is not a co-incidence that Marmite yeast extract is still made in Burton on Trent (although the factory is no longer next to what was Bass's brewery)
