As an ex sparky I concur, absolutely safe and legal, much more convenient though to be able to just flick a switch.I see no advantage apart from convenience, and if you need that you have bigger issues.

I believe its not straightforward as it seems i was looking to replace but you have to change the plate as well which with my DIY skills is a big no no,hose plug in replacements look good, thanks
As a current active full scale electrician registered with napit.Hi,
Brewed a beer today, I usually clean all my kit straight after and boil up a few litres of water in the mash kettle. Left it for 5 mins, when I came back the power in the garage had conked out...
Checked the indoor fuse box, all on, we also have an outdoor fuse box, also on so i'm presuming I blew the fuse?

Took fuse out which is this... Looks like this, i'm presuming its a cartridge fuse? Can't seem to find them anywhere, can you still buy them?

Thanks in advance!
Yes agreed but new code is easier to use and cheap and saferBoard still complies, you do not apply BS7671 retrospectively unless you have new work done.
