BTW, does anything attack chilli plants in the UK? At the moment they are unprotected!

I have a 3 years old habanero and jalapeno. And 3 2 years old surprise chillies, I scaled down the operation to the windowsills.

Aphids! Watch the leaves for the little green blighters. I'm fighting them off daily at the moment.

The old FV is now covered with a very fine mesh fly-screen! (It may also help to stop the wind from swirling around the bucket.)

Thanks for the tips! I will be watching the bucket like a hawk and the screen will stay in place until the chillies flower!

I'm hoping. The habaneros are still tiny and no flowers in sight. I think it's just not hot enough here to grow them properly (Serranos last year were fine)

Yeah, these were propagated from seed in early February. If they stay small, I'll overwinter then inside (big plants are way too big to do in our house and they die outside in the garage). I have about 4 tubs frozen in the freezer, so this year wasn't essential for cropping

Habeneros failed., got 4 Black Pearls going well, a couple of Birdseye, one Dorset Naga and loads of a long variety which I know not what it is. Certainly grow more than we use.
Wife made Chilli pickle last year - not a case of 'it was to die for' - more a case to die from!

Watch out for slugs. Last time I tried growing chillis outside one chewed the stalk in half

Excuse the drain pipe, This is my crop for this year. Once again, I've lost the little bits of cardboard telling me which is which, so it's going to be roulette when trying them.

Also featured a plant in the middle left, that I have no idea what it is or how it got there. A random Tomato plant in the top right, And two dead chillie plants middle right hand side. (planted them too late).

It’s beginning to look a lot easier (and probably cheaper) to just buy them!

Other people have a “green thumb” I’m noted for not having one!

e.g. My Dad cut down a bush and stuck the twigs into the ground to mark out a new piece of land - 80% of them promptly grew to form a hedge!
