Twas the first run for my HERMS system.

Went ok, but I think I need to re-think my pipework, it was drawing air in somewhere as the output was very, well bubbly which led to foaming.

Hope it ferments out ok.

anyhew, ended up with 46L at 1.052 so not a bad day :-)

Apologies for no pics, but was a frantic day.

I have heard that john guest fittings can suck air in sometimes? If your using them? or a slight poor seal somewhere?
I'd like to find somewhere that has these style beers as I'm not a mad hoppy fan but they do interest me as to the flavourings with those big hops.
Good day had my all

That'll be my problem then, maybe I should hard plumb it.

They have SNPA in my local (and probably your local) Tesco superstore £1.69 per 330ml bottle

Cheers,

John

I shall go a looking tommorrow!!
We use alot of these type of couplings in the HGV world under 8bar pressure no problems but you have problems if you use them on the suction side of a fuel pump. Have done a test with clear pipe and you can see slight air mixing after the coupling. I don't know how much suction or what type pump you have, But I'd look at the low pressure side piping first.

Bubbling away nicely as of this evening, awesome smell coming out of the airlock :-)

On the HERMs pipework front. I may have a solution :-)

Picking this and associated cpc disconnects tonight care of Gurgeh from JBK. What a nice chap :-)

RG550 is one hell of a killer pump . . . hence the reason for that recirc loop in the hard piping. Gurgeh had one cool system . . . and brewed some really good beer. . . . not seen him post anywhere for some time, any chance on spilling the beans on what's happening with him??

Very nice :thumb: A bit drastic for just a bit of piping problems? Throw it away and by new! ;) I want to see pic's of the brew setup when it's installed!

Not throwing anything away, the totton is going to be used for pumping on the copper side, RG550 for Liquor/HERMS side. :-)

Update on the beer: Kegged tonight at 1.012 cloudy (us-05), fined with gelatin.

The sample I took is absolutely awesome, hop balance is spot on, the water treatment has worked a charm. I have to admit I took a 1L <cough> quality control sample between filling kegs :-)

p.s. I can taste the flavour of the Amarillo 30 min addition, otherwise it's SNPA. I think the Amarillo adds a nice summery twist.

RG550 for Liquor/HERMS side.
It'll take some throttling back to use on the HERMS side

Might be best to swap those pumps around.

IIRC, RabM shut a ball valve upstream of the inlet port of a RG550, it squished his 22mm copper pipe between bv and pump
Really sorry to hear G's giving up brewing, but that's life, enjoy the new hobby G :thumb:
