Smyrna barley - any ideas?

I'm researching a 1902 brew paper (recipe) and it calls for "Smyrna New".
I've already worked out that this is not a malt but possibly a barley variety from Turkey but now I'm looking for any information that may help me to replace this with a modern equivalent.
