Slow walkers more likely to get sick

What's the basic theory behind this (I cannot view the site on my phone as its popping up the usual 'we value your privacy' blocker ) to which I never agree.

Walking slowly really annoys me, I only walk slowly if Im tired. Generally I try to walk as fast as I can. If I'm going somewhere, I want to get there. I'm going to live forever :laugh8:

I wish these scientists would do some proper work that would really benefit us all, are we going to see a minimum walking speed introduced?

That someone who's not vibrant in their youth and onward has a greater chance of being less healthy later in life or dying at a younger age? I would think it's obvious or at least common sense. Maybe do a study about what makes a cat lady a cat lady instead.
This study reminds me of the nonsense on TV where something like, "Studies show that if people are married and have a pet Cocker-Golden-Doodle-Shepherd, they live 30% longer," is promoted. It's not being married or the pet or the fake dog breed. It's people who are mentally well-off that are likely to do these kinds of things. Just mimicking these qualities is ineffective and useless.

Yes. That is impressive. Kid's going to hit the century mark with all his marbles intact and no cavities.
Speaking of going backwards, the study might have considered representing the portion of society's fast walkers who walk backwards to work, to school and in the grocery store. Slight oversight on the scientists' part, I think.
 
So, what I gathered from this is that people who are doomed to be less healthy and show signs of early ageing also show the symptom of walking slowly. Doesn't mean that walking faster will help them any.
My Mrs should live to be 110 at least - she walks like the clappers.

Give it a couple of months and they will be telling us slow walking is better for us and too much exercise is not good for us old folk.

Not exactly rocket science this one, if you walk quickly you're probably physically fitter and therefore less likely to get ill?

Not wishing to tempt fate here but since I took up running a few years back I've had far less colds that what I seemed to be having before. I sometimes feel like some bug is trying to take hold but a decent run to sweat it out and a few high dose vitamin C tablets over the next few days seems to knock it on the head. Definitely something in it as far as I'm concerned - get fit, do regular exercise, get less bugs.

I had one bad cold last year possibly bordering on flu, I knew it was coming, feeling slightly ropey beforehand I finished a run and my heart rate was quite a bit higher than usual. Was fecked the next day and ended up off work for a week which is very unusual for me.
