Hi all.

I currently use a very basic syphon. Basically a 9m hose and with plastic piping and a raised inlet. I'm finding it a real pain in the **** standing there for 15 minutes. Surely there must be something out thee a bit better.

Cheers in advance

it takes me a lot longer to re rack 27 litres than that for me
get a stool and sit-down relax with a beer and let the process finish at a relaxed pace
i reckon you have a 9mm inner diameter pipe not 9metres long? :?
 :thumb: :drink:

The bigger the tubing, the shorter it will take, but the more sediment you're likely to stir up.

But 15 mins has to be an exaggeration, or you're doing something wrong.

My syphon tube has a 10mm outside diameter, 7mm inside diameter, and is 5ft long ;)

Maybe you're not getting enough head.

Hook, line and sinker

But seriously, the head of liquid or the distance it has to fall does make a big difference to syphon flow rate, as the level in the top jar falls and the receiving jar fills up, the flow rate slows down.

For DJs and water cooler bottles I keep a large and quite rigid plastic plant pot (which has never seen soil) which I can invert on the kitchen worktop, then as flow rate reduces I can raise the top jar by another foot.
