I've noticed that some FVs come with a tap which you can fit a 'little bottler' to. Suppose I wanted to bottle directly from the FV, is this alright? I think it would be quicker, easier and reduce the risk of infection that can come with batch priming.

My only worry is that bits of trub would end up in the bottles. :wha:

Cheers!

Yeah it's possible just use the syphon. Not easy stopping the flow after every bottle and then you have to think how you will get the flow started again without risking infection every time.....

You could never batch prime from the primary FV ......... Your bottles would be half full of sediment
Even priming in the bottles and siphoning from the primary is not easy. There's several reason for using a secondary FV and some very good reasons for using tertiary FV! ( hey did you like that tertiary) :) :geek:

Sorry! that's what I took it to mean, and the trub in the bottles bit......... I'm a daft bugger

Hi All

What I mean is that I'd like to bottle straight out of the FV tap, negating the need to syphon at all. I would add sugar to the bottles and use the 'little bottler' device to fill them.

I can't see any reason why you can't do that. Just make sure the inside of the tap is well sanitised. You may get a bit more sediment in your bottles than desired but that's not a major issue.

Sanitising the tap will be difficult, and depending on the level of the trub in relation to the tap might cause problems, and/or wastage if the level is well below the tap. And if you try to tip the FV to get the last bit you will disturb the sediment.

I bottle directly from the tap ish. I sanitise a bucket with a tap on and run the star san out through the tap then transfer from the secondary FV to the bottling bucket, attach a length of silicone pipe to the tap with the bottle wand on the other end and off I go. I batch prime in the bottling bucket.
