Had a bottle of Sierra Nevada tonight and i'm pretty sure it's changed my life! (Ok maybe just opened my eyes to APA's)

I was wondering if anyone knows of a kit, preferably a can kit that tastes similar to Sierra Nevada

Thanks in advance

I think you'll struggle to get an unmodified kit that tastes like SNPA, but if you have a reasonable sized stockpot, you could creat an extract 2 gallon version pretty easily.

You'd just need 1.5kg of dry malt, a little crystal malt (100g would be more than enough) and about 60g of cascade hops.

Equipment wise, you'd need something the size of a pressure cooker (I did a 12l batch with mine) to boil it in and a sieve.

Let me know if this interests and I'll try and work out a recipe...

Foresters Arms kits do one called "Golden Citrus Blast", which is very similar to Sierra Nevada I'm told. I've not tried Sierra Nevada but I've brewed Golden Citrus Blast 3 times and it's one amazing beer. It's an Extract kit so you need to boil up the bag of hops prior to mixing in the liquid malt extract, more details here:

and my review of it here:

Not sure where you are, but the guy making the kits is located in Pops Homebrew Shop in Cheltenham. He recently started selling them on eBay, not the cheapest of kits, but you will really notice a difference over 1/2 can kits, quality is amazing - just like a pub real ale.

I have just done the AG Malt Miller recipe and has turned out great. Uses Northern Brewer hops as well as cascade. It was my first AG and I did it BIAB, and quite honestly I wouldn't say it was much harder than doing a kit! Not sure of any kits out there that are anything like Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. I have loved this beer ever since I went to Chico, California back in September and did a tour of the Sierra Nevada Brewery.

If you've got a reasonable size pot I'd definitely recommend making the jump to BIAB, you'll never go back.

Thanks for the replies! At the moment due to living away from home i'm limited in what I can and can't do. I haven't got any big enough to bring the ingredients to the boil, so I a kit is the only real option. Maybe i'll have to leave it until I have the stuff to do it proper

Thanks anyway

another way that might work is do something like a coopers APA kit and then dry hop it with 30g of cascade hops once its finished the primary fermentation. this would get you a lot closer than just a kit and the only other kit you would need is a muslin bag for the hops.

Yes SNPA is my favourite beer too. If I could brew something like that I would be a happy man. And if I could do a malt extract version I would be a happier man!

Recipes welcome...
