Shower Pumps

Hello all. I have been given this shower pump by a friend for free and its brand new and my first thought was to use it for brewing. can anyone tell me if it would be suitable please as I am unsure.

After reading around seems the body is made of Acetal plastics, but their are two different types and cant find out specifically which one is used in the pump. one of which is FDA approved.

Delrin is Acetal homopolymer and is easily attacked by acid foods. . Acetal copolymer is acid resistant and should be used in applications that deal with foods like ketchup, acidic juices, acid vitamin products, soft drinks and anything else that has a sharp taste such as vinegar.

I looked into fitting one of these when I converted the bathroom a few years ago. I'm not sure exactly what you are intending to do with it, but there are a couple of problems you might have. Firstly, they need some head (i.e. pressure difference between the input and output side to operate). This means you cant circulate liquid, only move it from a high place to a low. IIRC there needs to be about a 200 or 300mm head. Any less of a drop and it wont switch on. Secondly they are very fussy about air bubbles. Any air in them can cause damage to the impeller blades, so you need to be very careful about bleeding air out before using it, which might be a pain to do.
These things are quite pricey, so you might be better of flogging it on eBay and spending the money on something else!

Thanks for that mate didn't realise would be a gravity affair. also reading more Delrin is Acetal homopolymer and is easily attacked by acid foods, which a mash would be acidified making this pump a non runner. appreciate that response, good to know. thanks
