One of the reasons that Virgin are so good is that even though most of their services are FTTC, the bit from the cabinet to your house is over coax cable (PF100 I think, but can't quite remember) which is better suited than the twisted pair of the phone network for higher bandwidth connections. To be fair, Telcos do a decent job shoehorning broadband down cables that were originally designed for low fi voice.

I get 70ish Mbps wired and 20-45 on WiFi. Upload is a consistent 18-20 Mbps.
Plusnet fibre.
Don't really like Plusnet but they're cheap and reliable. If I were to change would probably go with Zen.
Don't currently have a need for anything faster, it does my Plex server well enough

Tested on laptop over wifi, which surprises me, but I'd get the same wired as that's what I pay for (100/10) as part of a TV / phone / interweb deal.

I was getting 2mbps until fairly recently till went to fibre, now I get a whopping 12!!

Here is another test site that gives accurate results - Speed Test by IHT – Check Internet Health Online by Broadband Connection Stability Diagnostic Tool (internethealthtest.org)
Note the TalkTalk name in the bottom left corner isn't who runs the test it shows your ISP and IP address which i edited out.
