Hi all,

I've got a 33l stainless steel boiler on the way from the malt Miller. I've asked for two holes to be cut for elements to be installed.

My question is... where's the best place to buy two elements and how would I go about fitting them?

2...
one per element fitting..

stainless would be better but they cost. I've had the ordinary ones for a year now and just starting to get a bit of rust on them cheap enough to replace

the homebrew builder sells 2.4kw with leads for about £30 I think

Standard Kettle Elements Non-Automatic 1 9/16" Thread size Nickel Plated

I got an 1 1/2 inch qmax about 38.5mm, would the element thread through that or would I need a 40mm?

I've read posts where 40mm holes were too big, and left the elements leaking. I prefer to use a 1.5" qmax, then grind-out the holes until the actual elements I'm using are a fit (usually these, 'cos they're monstas )

Nick the backer elements I bought were 39.4mm ideal for the 40mm Qmax cutter. I also used the km8 nut linked on these forums. No leaks as yet.

Cheers guys. Well the boiler arrived promptly yesterday (thanks rob @ themaltmiller) and am just waiting on elements and the nuts.

Relatively easy to fit?

I hope I don't get an leaks as some of you are saying... if i do, is there a way to seal better?

PTFE tape and silicone baking sheet/£shop silicone cake moulds for cutting soft heat/food safe custom seal washers are the mainstay of my bits n bobs box..

if a leak persists LSX silicone thread sealer or JBweld for a perminent solution..

but i doubt u will need anything but just in case..
