Shelf life of a bottled ale

Just a quick Q:

What is the average shelf life of a bottled ale before it goes off? (obviously all beer will be consumed long prior to this but it would be nice to know just incase im comatised on the way home from work)..................(touch wood)...

There is no average.

All depends on the type of beer, the strength and the bottling process.

Should generally last for months and months though for a 4% pale.

Oh absolutely ages in bottles. Its magic.
On that Oz Clarke and James May programme they were testing beers from an archive that were over 100years old.

You'd know if it was off. If it tastes OK it will be OK.
