Hello :)

Last time I did that until there wasn't more carbohydration, after I added yeastkiller. Left if over night and added clearer. To my suprise there was still carbohydration in it. How much do you shake it, and over how many days?

I don't degas as I have a messed up back and the last time I tried I could not walk for two days never had any problems with it .

Sorry for your bad back, but do you manage to get the wine clear then? Wondering about buying an airpump that does the job in about 2 hours.

Wine clears very nice mate with finnings I have shook it before and it's about the same quickness . The back has been shoot for years use to the pain now been on crotches for 3 years so the physical part in degassing is a bit much for me to handle so I tend to skip that

Back pain really sucks, and hurts yes. Have been so bad I couldn't dress myself. Have you been properly examined? Mine have gone away after a week the two the times I've had it.

Dosen't it take a long time to get it clear without demolishing the carbohydration?

I know some people shake the thing to death, others use fancy vac pumps. But a decent shake does it for me, and then pop in the finings. Works every time for me.

Had a MRI scan done last Xmas I have worn disk and a lot of nerve damage and it is interoperable according to my DR as I will still be in pain after as they left it to long . A osteopath would not even touch it . I have a 6 year old girl so a bonus now is I have spent a lot of time with her as I had to quit my job as a builder . Look after your back mate as it is important you do not want to end up like me when the go once they can keep going . Mine clears in about 2 week to a month so no not long I think people worry about de-gassing to much and is not that necessary I do not know if this would affect a wine over a year or so as mine is always drank as soon as it clears however I have a teyberry that's 3 months old and that has not lost any colour through oxidation

I'm sorry to hear about your serious condition. Great you got a child to care for so you can forget about the pain sometimes.

I degas with a bit of fishing equipment. I use a pellet pump, it's a jar with a tight fitting lid, the lid has a rubber valve and a little hand operated vacuum pump pushes onto it. On the underside of the lid is a plastic cyclinder which is a tight fit into the top of a DJ once I've put a few turns of gaffer tape onto it. Once I've sterlised it I just push it into the top of the dj, attach the pump and give it a few pumps every few mins. Works a treat ;p

I just shake the fizz out of mine. It does clear faster once you've shaken the fizz out. If it's fizzing back up that quickly then it probably hasn't finished fermenting :thumb:
