Statred a kit brew today
Used 500g beer enhancer
and 500g brewing sugar
I cant get my SG reading below 1055
did I need to reduce the amounts of above (kit said 1 kg of sugar)

I did not really want it to be this strong

Kit does not cover SG
5 gallon 23L
I was thinking it would need to be around the 1045 mark
kit say that it should end up about 4.5% ABV

Are you confident that your hydrometer is telling the truth?

Kits aren't usually that far out. For a 5 gallon kit is sounds like you have around 500g+ too much sugar in solution.

Thanks for your help
Kit said 1kg of sugar
I started with 1kg each of enhancer and sugar. Got 1kg remaining. (500g of each)

Checked hydrometer a few time (been double checking most the afternoon)

tested it in water @ 22 and got a reading of 1000
tested it in beer @ 22 and got a reading of 1055

Doesn't sound like you are doing anything wrong. Looks like you are just going to have to let it do its thing and see what you get. Hopefully it will ferments out and not be too sweet.

Good luck. :thumb:
