Everything else aside, leaving the beer in the FV for longer will result in less yeast in the bottle.... the point of the OP's question, sort of. There may be other ways to reduce this but a paint-thin layer of yeast will always be less troublesome than a thick one however it is achieved.
 
Well it works for me with any problems, and the big advantage is it's a simple approach. Also, as you point out, not everyone has the ability to refrigerate their beer to accelerate clearing, and although I do I rarely use it for this task. And anyway what's the rush!
