I bought a couple packets of this yeast - a top fermenting ale yeast - (it says) has anyone used this ? I normally use S-04 for lightly hopped/malty bitters and US-05 for highly hopped pale ales :thumb:

As far as I can find out it is a german ale yeast, probably best for an altbier.

I have a pack out of curiosity too so I'll be interested to see what anybody's experience of using it is.

Made up something along the lines of a pinkus alt (so a lot of wheat malt for an alt) with this, but it was fermented at lancssteve's so I didn't see it in much detail. It formed a gelatinous head a bit like US05 but not so solid. Fermented out OK and the wort tasted fine. I'll try and get more details from steve, but he seemed fairly impressed by it.

I`ve got a kolsch fermenting since sunday with K-97, seems to be going along fine - top fermenting like US-05 and as you said looks very simular :thumb:
