i see a thread on here somewhere about using soda stream syrup but cant find it again.

im wanting to try to brew alcoholic root beer using a syrup but not sure on the maths

can any one help

Without any factual backup, entirely off the top of my head...

Same concentration of syrup as you'd use to make a soft drink, so 1 sodastream capful per litre implies 4 to 5 per gallon demijohn, or 20 to 25 per 5g bin.
Look up from the pack how much sugar that has, calc how much to add for your desired ABV (20g/l->1%), make a wild guess at how much artificial sweetener to add.

thanks just had a look at the packet info online it has 9g sugar per 10ml so 45g/5 caps +100g sugar for 1 gallon DJ should give me around 6%

I've really grown to like Root Beer since living over here.. Funny, b/c anyone from the UK I ask is all "Urrrgh! It tastes like Germoline!" :|
