If it is like the picture above, could be excess break material in the hydrometer glass giving you a false reading.

Hydrometer measures what ever is suspended in the sample, if Rod had let it settle or kept it out he may have got a lower gravity reading.

From the tap on the kettle, it's the first time it has been way off in 2 years off ag brewing

Quite alright to take a sample from the kettle, but usually just before flame out. Taking samples from the kettle after cooling can give a false reading through the stratification of the dissolved solids.

Biggest brew I have done so far is on, pushing the limit of the grain basket 7.4kg I expect effiency will take a big hit today

My biggest was a 7.25kg grainbill and that gave me 24 litres at 1.082 after a 90 minute mash.
That's gonna be a pokey IPA!

update, og 1064 should have been 1073, lesson learnt for next time, longer mash and maybe add some golden syrup, end of the day it's beer and will get drunk

Must admit to always having at tin of Golden Syrup handy just in case.
I'm not a fan of any brew much below 6%.

Well I can’t sit here and vegetate so I got a brew on V2 of my Lancashire pale ale, I have changed the hops to fuggles bramling cross and uk cascade and the yeast Kveik Voss from cml

Done and dusted 20L LPA in the fv voss pitched at 35.4c og 1049 happy with that

Probably go off like a rocket with Voss. I love the stuff for my APAs. Generally done in a week and easy to top harvest some for future use too. I do find it doesn't clear too well before bottling but I don't have the ability to cold crash yet.

I can sit and vegetate no more, so doing a brew new moon English ipa it is almost a smash MO and a little crystal hops are EKG
