A friend has asked me to brew a beer for his daughter's christening next month. First time someone has asked me to brew a batch specifically for them.

His request was for a darker style beer (ruby to you and me, he hates porters).

His Daughter's name is Lola, and he's a bit of rock fan, hence the name the name of the ale

Anyhew here's the recipe I've put togther for tomorrow:

Not too sure about the caramalt, I'm told it adds toffeeness without the burnt, nutty taste - can anyone comment?

Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

All the best with the brew tomorrow BM :thumb: I like the name

It's quite an honor to be asked to brew a batch for someone

I've heard that caramalt is preferred crystal in certain circumstances - let us know how it goes.

Any Pics? ;)

I ended up making some changes to this one, my mate called and said he loved hobgoblin whilst the mash was on, so I liquored down to around 4.2% and swapped the goldings out for styrians.

On the plus side I ended up with lots more beer :-)

down to 1014 as of last night, and surprisingly bright.

I gues thats the end of mash recirc i'm doing.

After the intial young bitteness hit, i'm getting burnt toffee and caramel notes, followed by lingering subtle sweetness.

i'm liking caramalt methinks.
