I'll add some pics to this as i go along.
I roasted my first 5kg batch in the oven - i have an indeset gas hob electric oven.
First lot i did i kept burning some of it as it dried out and either stuck to the bottom or the sides. Not a great problem as i managed 2 brews out of it, a bitter and a stout.

Next batch in my opinion hasnt worked as i think i roasted/cooked it way too fast on my BBQ.
But i have done a bitter with it which was way off the SG forcast so had to use sugar to bring it back up, its now in 2nd FV after a week and looks OK - time will tell.

ANyway i got thinking how i could get around this roasting lark as really i need a commercial roaster - not available here at all. They do have 'nut' and coffee roasting machines that run on gas or electric but way out of my price range. SO back to using the noggin and thinking things through.

I got a cooking oil container - metal - 5 ltr and gotta be food safe as its had oil in it.
My cooker oven being electric has an integral built in spit roast - so

Got said can and punched it full of holes and mounted it onto the roasting arm. Popped in aprox 8oz of barley -unmalted just for testing.

Chucked it on for 1.5hours at 100c 1hour at 150c and 30 mins at 180c - result perfect roasted barley lovely brownish amber colour in the middle.

I'll pop some pics on when i do the main batch in a few days once i dry it out as its just sprouting at the moment. :thumb:
