mash tun
the filter made from copper pipe should have slots cut in it

Boiler
the filter for this is again made from copper pipe but with holes drilled in it

do you need a false bottom as well or instead of ?

Cheers
Max

Correct. The general consensus is slots for grain and holes for hops.

You don't need a false bottom if you're using a copper manifold.

cheers James very speedy response

what size holes for hops I seem to remember someone say 1mm

I'm very close to having all the bits together to join the dark side :drunk:

I used 2mm. I've heard of people using 3mm. I haven't heard of people using 1mm. I can imagine that would be a pain to drill.

I used 2mm for my hop filter as well, drains nicely .. :thumb:

To drill them I punched first ever so slightly with a nail to stop the drill slipping at all. Maybe obvious, maybe not, but I am mentioning anyway....

thanks for the info I thought that 1 mm was going to be a bit of a nightmare thats why I asked :thumb:
I fortunatly am the proud owner of a drill press so shouldn't have too many probs drilling it
thanks for all the advice

I have a piller drill but with a thin drill bit it will still flex and slide just give a little tap with a nail first :thumb:

Ive only drilled the underside of my copper pipe for the hop strainer. Dont know it this is right or wrong but im working on the assumption it wont block when the hops settle on the top.
